Instead, try to select items that are grilled, broiled, steamed, or roasted.

When you are eating out, also pay attention to the portion size of your meal. Restaurants are known for serving portions that are double the size or greater than your body actually requires. There is nothing wrong with asking for a to-go box and eating the rest of your meal at another time. Furthermore, whether you are at home or out with friends, try to eat mindfully and enjoy every bite.

Consuming the right liquids is also an important part of staying healthy. Sugary sodas are full of empty calories that do not provide the nutrients your body craves. Similarly, alcohol should be limited or avoided since it has been shown to raise cholesterol levels, increase blood pressure, and can also lead to weight gain. Water is always the best choice to stay hydrated and healthy.

Now, trying to suddenly switch to eating completely healthy all the time is not realistic. However, if you make small changes over time such as switching to low-fat milk this week, then deciding to try a new vegetable next week, and so forth, you will soon find yourself journeying on the road to better health.

So, what else do you need to pay attention to in order to be healthy? The last main components for good health are getting enough sleep and nurturing your mind. Most people require around 8 to 9 hours of sleep every night in order to operate at their optimum level. Nurturing you mind is also important and it can help to find hobbies you enjoy. It can be very rewarding to read books, do volunteer work, or join a club. If you are sick of the elliptical machine, then try an exercise DVD or a new sport. It may help to get a friend to exercise with you and keep you accountable.
